This is the Frequently Asked Questions. Please feel free to inquire.
Q How is it similar to or different from regular kindergartens (youchien)?
Like other kindergartens, children do various activities like paint, craft, song and play. At Horizon children will also learn concepts from maths, science, social studies and physical education, including an international content where appropriate. The biggest difference is that all activities are conducted in English.
Q Can children with no or very limited English also enrol?
Yes. These ages are the best times to learn a second language. Children will learn English naturally in their daily school life through repetitively listening and experiencing English in different situations.
Q Can children follow the activities without being able to understand English?
Many of our students experience an all-English environment for the first time at our school. However, they are able to follow the class activities as our teachers use a lot of visuals, acting and demonstrating other than speaking.
Q Is it OK if parents cannot speak English?
Parents are not required to be able to speak English. Our Japanese speaking staff will help with written and oral translations, and in all school documents Japanese will also be included.
Q What is an academic year, and the time for enrollment?
The school year is from April to March, and there are 3 terms in a year. Your child can enrol any time if he/she turns 3.
Q Is there an entrance examination?
When we receive the application forms, we set up an observation day and interview interview with the child and the parents. Interview with the child is basically to check his/her language and ability levels at the time of enrollment.
